Thanks, I guess we'll have to play around and see. Seems like diesel or bar oil might leave a stain. I've got a big pile of white pine logs I'm working thru so nothing too special.

I'm curious as to when you guys are running blade lube and what your using? I've heard bar oil, diesel, water, etc etc but have only tried water so far. The softwoods and green hardwoods dont seem to need anything but I've had the blades gum up a bit in drier hardwood.

Found this old mill off in the weeds at local timber frame company. Spun a bearing in the pillow block and ruined one of the band wheel shafts, so they parked it. A little TLC and it's running great. Red oak log in the pic got turned into new decking for the equipment trailer.

Good point, I've gotten creative before with getting logs out. This one was in a very busy location, a big house being remodeled with several subcontractors all there at one time. It was an act of congress just to have enough space to take the tree down. The trunk was literally 6" from the...

Finally got around to milling some of the145yo red maple that I took down a few weeks ago. This was the only log the dingo would get on the trailer. The bottom 20ish ft had to get bucked for firewood, almost made me sick. Really cool grain and the ambrosia in the sapwood turned out pretty nice too.

Nice, some good ideas there... cutting out a spot for the attachment plate is pretty slick.

We got a longer but not near as large in diameter (18" vs 30") on the trailer one end at a time. The squeezer grapple doesn't lift very high but I wouldn't be able to grab the bigger piece with the root grapple. I'll have to try the chain trick, I also think a set of forks might be nice.

I wanted to mill on site but alas we are tree guys not loggers and we needed to be finished up with the job. I tried every trick in the dingo playbook to get that log on there... told the new guy he might see me cry when I had to cut it

A little black walnut, had a nice 8' log but couldn't get it on the trailer. Unfortunately had to cut it down so the dingo would lift it.

Thanks, I'm new to milling so definitely on a steep learning curve. The 394 is really stout, I'm impressed. I've got about six hundy in it including the bar and chains. Added a second port to the muffler to help it get the heat out as well.

That was crataegus, super hard stuff. Tried both regular full comp chain and my homebrew milling chain and got the same results. The pine turned out really smooth with regular old round chisel.
