They caught it but as for fixing it... I am not sure about that. The figures of an actual COVID death with no other contributing factors was actually really low but the restrictions were still in place for a long time.

@Bermy The Uk government admitted about a year ago that there had been an error in the calculation of deaths. Any death within (IIRC) 28 days of a positive test was designated covid.
