Yep, huge crops this year. Pear and apple picking this afternoon. We picked 25# of pears from my gf's backyard tree before the first frost, 2 nights ago. Ripe and delicious!

Maybe Bosc. Ridiculous pears!! A lot of a longer storing old variety on the big tree. Probably close to 100+ pounds. 2 more trees to visit this weekend. I got my 16' orchard ladder out, along with a 10' orchard ladder and shorter step ladder, plus some free climbing. Dropping to a person...

One old, old pear is 10 times this size! Used to be a large orchard on the neighbors' farm. They have been living there since c. 1950. Next year's beef for their family. The stumps behind the cows are remnants from the orchard.

My gf and I went for Birthday Blueberry Picking at the end of my road. There is an Eberhardt variety that started up here and ended up moving to CA. The old Blueberry farm is about 800' down the road from my house. A short time picking and pruning out overgrown rows yielded over 6 quarts.

What about letting the silt settle out? 20 years ago, we were hiking up the Paria river canyon, as up-watershed there was rain. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paria_River The Paria Narrows are 10' wide, 800' deep, IIRC, so we couldn't descend the canyon. The river water looked like...

Blueberry and blackberries are in season. At the end of my road is a long abandoned commercial blueberry farm. Free picking. I've been clearing overgrowth over the last couple years, improving access. More of that post- harvest season. It's a flooded bog in the wet season.

@stig Any idea why meat doesn't work? Heard of anyone else like that?

Black bits on meat is not good. Smoked could be better than fried. Much tastier! Also, fried potatoes are no bueno, possibly more from an inflammatory perspective. I grew up eating crap. In the last few years. I've noticed French fries taste good with ketchup, but always make me feel bad...

How is smoked meat for one's health? I was just reading that bbq, with fat dripping onto the fire and burning, will coat the meat in carcinogenic compounds, albeit tasty.

From what I've gathered, reflective scare tape or CDs are best hung close to ripening to prevent birds eating cherries. . Bugs are another challenge.
