I think Murph has been a bit hurt by the lack of attention he’s receiving in his nutbar threads, so he’s being inflammatory on this one to get some much needed attention.

I do the bottom first, I know there’s been some debate about it. I just feel that the bottom/flat cut sets the mark for the rest of the sequence. I’m no logger though or even a faller of great ability.

I guess we’ll wait for @Husky D to offer up a reason. An oak butt like that is certainly worth the effort of a few extra minutes and a tickle on the chain afterwards if the worst happens.

I am guessing high value timber, at least the forestry fallers I have worked with do that to maximise the millable wood.
