I finally got the rest of my big Hickory out of the field. Been a long hard road to get here. Remainder of the trunk is on the edge of the field, waiting to be cut. The pieces are 40" long, will get cut in half, then quartered before splitting. Took a little time and cleaned up the bark and...

Been a while...health issues suck. Blood clots, left leg, 2 surgeries, 3 stints, hospital, rehab, recovery, ain't fun. Went at it today, 36" hickory sawlog that set to long. Weapon of choice was the 046 & 36" bar, full skip chain. Next will be quartering the blocks with with the 084. Ed

It bothered me to cut up that Maple, 2 good saw logs there. Sadly, they were to big for our mill, its also manual, turing the cant would've been a pita. When quartering the blocks I had 3 cuts that I had to wedge open. WTH? Stress? Grain? Never had that before Started splitting, damn, beautiful...

Time to move it or lose it today. 30+ soft maple, it went over a year ago, edge of the muck ground. Getting to it was a problem, dad got the top out last fall when it was dry. Today I got the trunk out. Started by getting the 084 & 36" bar out, hadn't ran in 3 years.....wiped the moss off it...

I would hate to see what our Timberwolf TW-5 costs today. Ed

So I can stack logs against them, get a taller pile and keep them from rolling into the woods. Pad is concrete also, all of it is pre-cast salvaged from an underground manure pit a friend removed. Ed

Made it to the woods for a few hours today. 38° but the wind got me...more so spending most of my time on the tractor. A 1/2 mile haul with the last 3 didn't help. Ed

Rough sawn Cottonwood deer stand with pine battens, got to be 20 years old now. Just have to keep a good coat of paint on it. Just repainted this fall. Ed

Yes, its pretty flat here. This parcel of our property does have seasonal shallow drainage ditches, probably done 100 years ago with horse and plow, can make moving around the woods a bit of a challenge if its wet. Ed

Skidded the logs out this afternoon. All stems came out in 1 piece with no hang-ups. Ended up with 7 logs from the Ash and 2 more from a 10" utility pole snag Hickory. Will block them up for splitting tomorrow. Ed

Back at it today, took about an hour to clear my path, get the logs on the ground and remove the stump. Ed

Found my next "victim" 3 trunk Ash, stump rotted, went over, 2 main leaders 20" & 16" are off ground. Lucky for me the stump split. Went out just before dusk, (no picks, light fading fast) took the clearing saw & pole saw. Got a path opened up, will return with the bobcat tomorrow. Push all the...

Took out 2 dead aspen today, easy drops in the now harvested bean field. This one just felt good....getting my "sea legs" back when felling. About 14" at the cut. Ed

2 sunny afternoons in the woods yielded 10 still good ash logs. 3 of the trees were snags, room to pull was tight, overall went well. First time in several years l was able to cut in this area, low ground, floods, then won't drain/dry. Ed

My fil went out gracefully, told everyone when he was done doing something. Ain't gonna be that lucky with dad. Sadly he uses my equipment, not his. At least he can't get in/out of the Bobcat now, so, that is safe. Ed
