    How'd it go today?

Spent the afternoon driving gravel truck for my friend who is building a new house. It's a win-win for me. I like driving old trucks, and he buys me lunch.:D This evening I sent to the mill, as I finally got dimensions to saw one log. Almost immediately, the brand new band jumped off and wound...

    How'd it go today?

Had a few logs dropped off today for a custom sawing order. Customer is out of town now. (Logs were supposed to come two weeks ago:whine:) I wish something would come together here soon.

Thanks. If I can move some logs, I'll be able to get something done.

The pump is still pumping, it's just leaking badly. I'll see how it goes. I have to get some stuff sawn asap. Any of the neighbors who drilled deep have nasty water. Any of the shallow, roughly 20', wells have good water. A sand point can be driven with a sledge hammer, or a post pounder.

I'm enjoying the sun. Trying to make the most of it while it's here. Started the next phase of sawmill reorganization yesterday. Parked the Kubota and was planning my next move and the water pump let go and drained most of the coolant. I've never had one fail when it wasn't running...

    How'd it go today?

I'm sort of at a stopping point for my sawmill cleanup. I've got some paying work for tomorrow and then I'm going to focus on processing all the odd pine logs. They are going to be timbers, boards, or dunnage. It all depends on what they look like when I open them up. I tried a panoramic shot...

An old logger near me hired a young kid to run his skidder. After a couple hitches the kid came walking out of the woods to tell him that he had rolled the skidder. He handed him the grease gun and said it was never going to get any easier to grease it.

I won, let's just leave it at that. :/: Next stop is the Port of Rensselaer.

Sometimes winning doesn't look like winning, but I was winning none the less.

    How'd it go today?

Worked on the sawmill cleanup today. The last thing I need to do on this phase is move my old gravel truck. I did get the starter out, which was no fun at all. If I can convince myself it's been fixed adequately, I'll get it back in tomorrow. The weather is supposed to improve. I'll be able to...

    How'd it go today?

I was wondering if I could heat the stud up and melt it back in. Maybe fill the hole up with some scrap lead first. Possibly blow myself up saving a free battery.

Looks like I'll have to pull the starter out of the dump truck. The connection going into the starter is loose, and it's very tight down in there. Surprisingly, the battery that I cooked the stud out of still has 12.39 volts. Trying to figure out how to attach a battery cable to it. :/:

Well pump swap went well. New pump had a 1" discharge. I had every type of bushing and reducing coupler except that. If I had a 1" close nipple, I could have gone to a 1" to 1 1/4 reducing coupler, then a 1 1/4" to 3/4" bushing, to a 3/4" nipple. I might have had that close nipple if I looked...

    How'd it go today?

Well pump finally croaked. While I was in the shower. I had most of the galvi fittings at the house. Need a couple elbows, which I might have at the farm. If not, I'll chisel the old nipples out of the elbows. At least I won't feel bad being inside tomorrow while it's raining outside.

I've actually made a few mechanical sketches for the first time in many years. I have stacks of these for different ideas I've had. Tonight was a slab stacking rack, a hydraulic slab slider offer for one person removal of heavy slabs off the mill, and a height adjustment interlock that is set to...

    How'd it go today?

I've been thinking about wide slabbing a lot lately. The big ash I sawed last month could have been wider with a bar type mill. I may stretch my mill 6" someday, as that can be done easily with Wood-Mizer parts. That would make a lot of situations easier. The wide slabber would be great not only...

    How'd it go today?

Phase 2 of the sawmill cleaning is done with the exception of moving an old dump truck. I had one battery that would fit that was free ranging about the sawmill, and another in the Kubota. Rather than take the one out of the Kubota, I made up an Anderson connector to hook the tractor to the...
