Atm clear and around 20 underneath . f. Sposed to cool off tonight and the wind pick up. -42 , winds to 20 mph. . I'm not really looking forward to pokin holes in the ground tonight. I'm back up in the arctic. How y'all doing ?
I put a 12 oz bottle of Power Service White in with every fill up. . As long as your using #1 it burns good. #2 turns into a solid at 40 below. I have a trickle charger on my batteries. Frost plug 600 watt heaters on each side of the block. 200 watt pad on the oil pan. And a pad I put on the...
Starting diesels that haven't been plugged in is an easy way to get rid of thousands of dollars. .We pay 37¢ a kilowatt. My 1 ton Ford pulled 1800 watts when plugged in and that was cheap compared to a new engine.
One thing some may not know is transmissions are affected by the cold also...
It had finally turned winter here. It hung out at-30F for a few days. Yesterday it warmed up and is now +5 . Coldest we had at the house was -36 maybe-38 . Central Canada is making us look like wimps this winter.
Not fully daylight yet. Sickle moon sliding sideways in the sky. It warmed up this morning. +22°f this morning. Makes for Slick highways. And I need to figure out what to wear to the woods today.
The dolldrums of summer had me down. But winter, now that's Alaska time !!!!!! I didn't get hardly any tree work this summer so didn't have much to report. Things are starting to get busy here now
Have had to snow blow the drive 3 times since the 3rd and will have to again in the morning...
-10 when I got to work. Dropped down to-25 or so when the sun set. Dark by 8 pm. . I may be up here long enough to get a pic of the midnightsun . But then I've seen it 35 under and the sun still up at almost midnight.
Funny you mention that. A lot of the guys up here are just regular Joes . But there are quite a few guys that it would be pretty normal to see in extreme endeavors. I'm back drilling in the pit this week. Just 2 of us. The guy I'm working with has worked on Antarctica the past 3 years. He...
65-70 below wind chill all night long. Right now I'm working fueling iron and equipment all over the job site. Many different things going on at once. Building ice roads and ice bridges and pads. Building gravel roads and pads. Building permanent bridges. Ect. Ect. Cranes have to stop work...
There are a bunch of the weather changing installations scattered around. The HAARP is the one close to me. But. Since nothing happens in a vacume ie of and by itself, if they change the weather up here what does that do to the weather somewhere else.
How come Al Gore and the U.N...
I guess I take a jaundiced eye toward global warming/ climate change. . There used to be a forest of palm trees on the north slope. We had mastadons running around. They dn't eat lichen and willow brush.
And then we have the HAARP. Why doesn't anyone blame them for all these climate...
I was being phaciecous .
It got up to +35 overnight. Now its 32 snowing and raining. No global warming just a January thaw. Very normal weather event almost every winter.
Nope. Solar flares and such. . We should go back to burning coal :-)
This is a good thread. Hopefully we can avoid the politics. Heck, just plant more trees.
Don't you have heaters on it? .. a 150 watt. 6" square pad on the oil pan and an 800 watt lower radiator hose heater works pretty good down there where its not too cold. . Its a lot easier on belts, hoses and all the other fiber/ synthetic parts if the engine compartment has a little warmth...
Wow. It was only 2° colder here yesterday. . That's really amazing.
But if things work out I'll be in Prudhoe this winter so I'll update you guys on the cold
