Nice job on that bench /coffee table. I made one similar to that a few years ago. Seeing that benches are the latest posts on the milling thread I'll post up my latest creation. I milled some Austrian Pine slabs using my chainsaw mill about two years ago. I decided to make a pew style bench...

Cool, glad to see your having fun. I am getting geared up to do some milling myself with my little outfit, if the winter cooperates that is . Just curious, what are you going to do with the slabs your cutting??

I started to reread this thread from the beginning. I made some comments earlier in thread before having any real experience with my chainsaw mill, drying and finishing wood. After a couple of years and pretty much coming full circle I can just about look at a log and tell which is the best way...

:D:D Truer words were never spoken for the person hoping to make money with a chainsaw mill. I am in the same boat. I would seriously consider that chainsaw ripsaw if the demand for milled specialty slabs or boards or rustic furniture was higher than it is and the money you get would make it...

I'll second that also, it is alot work and screwing around trying to mill lumber with chainsaw for what results it yields and it is a little on expensive side, but is is fun to do. Is this attachment just for getting boards from a cant because it looks similar to that mini mill that can be used...

Just thought I would bring this thread back up. Besides it is finally raining which we desperately need and I need a day to screw off a little from the wind storm that is still haunting us when it came through on August 4th.:lol: I know this doesn't have a whole lot to do with actual...

Amazing what a simple attachment for a bar on a chainsaw will do to a guy.:lol: I am the same way now and really have to curb my appetite for project wood. I don't know how it is for anyone else but it hasn't stopped with the chainsaw. Ever hand hew a log to make two flat sides on it...

Wow, 8x8 cants of olive. Are the cants Russian olive ?? We have Russian Olive around here but I haven't seen any get that big. Mostly they are invasive small brushy trees that are a pain in arse to work with. I see spring is in the air and the milling wood bug is starting to bite.:lol: I...

You are right Al, but it is kind of fun. I have been snoping around the local Craig's list's in our area just for kicks and saw a Woodmiser LT 40 which I think is Dave's machine along with the full hydraulics and a fuel injected 28 hp Honda with very few hours on it along with a Woodmizer kiln...

I can see carving turtles and frogs CurSed, that wouldn't be too hard to translate into piece of wood.

Thanks guys, The only draw back I found with the mill set-up is when using the bigger milling attachment using two slabbing rails is you have to slide the rails under the mill attachment because of the two bar clamps on the saw. A ladder would work better I think because you can hold the ladder...

Last week we had a local festival and the neighbor who ownes property along the road leading to one of the major attractions let me set-up on the side of the road and see if I could sell some of the benches and table I had made with my homemade mill guide along with some chainsaw carving items...

Thought I would bring this thread back into the limelight. Nailing boards or setting up slabbing rails to the top of logs to get that first cut with the Alaskan mill just really isn't for me. It can get to be a little on the frustrating side unless you have alot of time on your hands. I made...

I forgot to say thanks to you guys for the compliments. Thanks again. It just came off the second go round on e-bay and I still haven't sold it. I'll have to wait it out till we have our local corn festival. Where I live they have a log home festival which is a big attraction and the road to the...

I know. Burnham, I'll see if I can do that. It gutted me to put those lags in like that . I had it put together in a different fashion but the darn thing is so bulky and heavy as I was moving it around one side came apart.:X So in went the lags for overkill.

Jay, here are a few pics of one of the benches I have gotten finished. I have got a couple of others but they aren't quite finished and are still in the making and still need to be put together. I hope to start playing around with mortise and tenon joints and start using small logs and limbs to...

Jay, Both, I have seen many a nice log just turned into firewood. I now have some experience at milling now that I have used my chainsaw mill attachment along with some internet reading. It is ok for producing thick slabs for some of the benches I have made and plan on making but I am not going...

Nice, What model Woodmizer is that mill. Is it a self feeder or do you have to push the bandsaw. I am seriously thinking of getting into a Woodmizer.
