    Chainsaw repair video series

Do any of you watch videos on repairing saws? What’s out there good? I know very little and I want to learn something. I have tried a couple of repairs but they did not go well. I discovered this Canadian YouTube channel today and it seems like this shop is very methodical with diagnosis. It’s...

    Communication Linework in VietNam

I enjoyed August Huneke interview with Jerry Beranek a long time ago. It is on August’s YouTube. Jerry talked about doing pole climbing in Vietnam. Today I discovered some pictures and stories from that time on a FaceBook group called MA Bell. I will post here for the enjoyment of all who are...

Very short video showing a rigging system with GRCS, rigging rings, and an arborist block.

@TreeMuggs usually puts a short reel like this out and later follows up with a longer video with some explanation. The visual clarity and the purpose driven camera work in this one exceeds what I usually see in the average action tree videos.

Older article on crane use in tree work.

Chris Girard’s informative articles led me to search this out. Working w/Cranes: What You Need to Know – TreeBuzz - https://www.portal.treebuzz.com/working-wcranes-what-you-need-to-know-1285 Chris had mentioned in comments that snap cuts have fallen out of favor with leaders in crane use...

    Various ways to tie bowline

How many ways do you know to tie the bowline? I learned the rabbit and hole and tree version in Boy Scouts. Then I learned the better way (according to many) used by sailors and arborists. This involves tying an overhand knot and “capsizing” it to create the rabbit already through the hole...

Long but light branch equals big excitement for a newb

We have a Maple growing over our garage. It is shaded by larger trees on all sides except the garage side. It has been sending so many branches in that direction that some of them crossed and are rubbing each other. I wanted to remove all the crossed branches but only had time for one yesterday...

    Armchair hazard tree

I would never consider this challenge…and nobody asked me to either.🙂. Just curious how you would approach it? It’s right beside a busy 4 lane street across from a high school. It broke off in the storm Thursday night. Here it is, Monday. I drove by Friday and was afraid of it falling on my car...

Sticky spray from trees this spring

I have been parking under the same trees for about 20 years. I get all kinds of debris on my van. Once a squirrel tail ripped off by a predator. This year there is something new, sticky like a mist coming down all the time. April, May and June. It’s hard to get off with water. Once I get it off...

    ISC Apex rope wrench

https://wesspur.com/items/asc171.html So I just got my new Wesspur catalog. Always interested to see what is new. I don't know how I did not hear about this. Has anyone tried one of these new wrenches? It sounds like you can mid-line attach easier.

Paul Poynter aka WoodenHand. Webinar on two rope climbing posted on Educated Climber yesterday

Thought some might be interested. I was. It’s a long video and I am just getting started. Paul is talking about using two climbing lines throughout the work climb, not because it’s mandated in UK— but because it makes sense for him. The part that got me interested was something that Lawrence...

How do you cut a slanted bore in small heavy leaner?

In another post Stig blew my little beginner mind with this quote: "You can ALWAYS borecut. If the tree is small, bore in vertically or 45 degree. That'll allow boring on trees less than a bar width in diameter. " I had some curiosity although I am not experienced enough to try anything in a...

    New rigging device LOL

So my Facebook decided I needed to see the latest alternative for off road vehicle self recovery. The advertisement makes it sound so light and useful! They act like it’s a new idea. And maybe it is in their world. I have no idea. I have two wheel drive, low ground clearance and I stay on the...

Help me identify little white mushrooms.

Found these growing out of some store bought “topsoil” Lots of wood chips. I didn’t pay attention to the state of origin but probably PNW. After a little internet research I suspect genus Inocybe. Can anyone confirm or refute this guess? I would be very curious to learn the species but I...

    Chainsaw safety

Disclaimer: I am a recreational climber. I have done some homeowner bucking of fallen limbs, but not a lot of saw experience. Looking for opinions on chainsaw use I witnessed today. My neighbor was having some tree work done by an outfit without a chipper. The ground crew was able to get an...
