I ran a chipper for the first time the other day. Big old Vermeer. Kinda cool but I think I prefer fire. 😆

I talked to another biz owner this morning. His BC900 is only 35 hp. 59 HP does a lot with hand feeding without autofeed engaging. I'm only familiar with 25hp and 35hp rentals from a handful of occasions.

A Vermeer 1000 will jam often enough. I haven't found the exact pattern as to why. The worst was when, due to it's stupid design, someone simultaneously throttled it up and disengaged the clutch, and somehow the feed wheels were still working, ramming a branch into the freewheeling drum. That...

To me, and I stress this with my guys, one less log might make a faster turn for a repeat trip. Instead of farting around maxed out . I never put a stop watch on it and volume measure. But my head says it would be better turns and easier on the equipment.

You get a lot of use out of a tiny space. A concrete pad would be nice.

I've been meaning to take a pic, I've had one for my electric motor and pump repair for decades, but only a dirt pad. Much better with the steel plate, once things get sorted with other stuff, it'll turn into a concrete pad.

Keep it wide open and hit it with a blower in the infeed chute.

    Wood stove heat

I think his place is a bit smaller 34-3600 maybe. Looks to be made of at least 10ga, big firebox, firebrick lined, good sized blower, it has a filter enclosure, just normal furnace filters, big ash catch but no tray(yet), 6” stove pipe, door gaskets look to be easily replaceable and standard...

Hell, that can happen on my 1250. Probably any chipper. Always let it run a few to clear the throat and blades before shut down

I've wondered about jam protection. I am not concerned about chipping a max log, it's the odd, large chunk, especially by itself. Maybe unfounded.

Don’t worry about maxing it out, you can do it all day (as I did today as a matter of fact) stress control will deal with it. It can happen if you turn it off before it’s emptied the chamber, because the wheel stops quickly (direct drive) a small piece can drop between the anvil and the blade...
