The wall thickness was about the same, but I had to open up the dies to get it to start threading. Then I had to chase the threads with the dies at the proper setting so the threads were the right size.

Mission accomplished. 1 1/4" wasn't too bad. One piece of 1 1/2" was a beast. Must have been a little fatter than the other stuff. I will definitely get the powered threader going if I need to do much more.

Yeah, Don kept the oil pump, catch basin thing to use in his machine shop when he retired.

I got the threader back together this afternoon. Seems to be working well. Hopefully have the install done today.

Started messing with the pipe threader tonight. It's turning into a bit of a project in itself. This is the actual threading die, not the powered threader, which is definitely a project. I got my pipe vise down in the basement, so at least I can do the four nipples I need by hand. My plumber...

I want the threader in the basement permanently anyway. I don't think the threader will damage the threads. It has a chuck, not a vise.

I got the tank in position this evening. Specs say it's 320 pounds. Not fun, to say the least. I think I need a 2" to 1 1/2" bushing, which I might have up at the farm. Otherwise, I just need to get the threader in the basement. It might weigh as much as the tank. :O

I will be threading the parts I cut out to remove the old tank. My plumber gave me his Oster pipe threader when he retired. Plenty of room to move the tank around. Definitely sticking with iron, already have the unions. Thanks. Going to see how far I get later. It's raining, so an inside job is...

This is what I'm up against. I'd have to take everything apart starting outside.

I have to install unions between my new oil tank and the fill and vent piping. Anyone have any suggestions for figuring out the length to cut the nipples? I've tried YouTube, but no luck, surprisingly. I have one 1 1/2" and one 1 1/4" to install. Thanks.
