Warm enough for the mill today. Some cedar I fell a few months ago. The client wants raised beds on posts.

    Husqvarna 562xp

24" capable, Husqvarna saws have been reliable so far (550 xp mark1, 395xp and 540i). Price is high but still reasonable. I have the 395XP on the rare occasions I need more than 24".

    Husqvarna 562xp

Planning on buying a 562 XP with a 24" bar. It will replace a 60cc echo that is aging. Use will be ground work and occasional work in tree. Any opinion?

Last week milling of a sugar maple log that I had left outside for 3 years. Wood is still solid. I cut everything at 2" thick. I wonder what the humidity is after 3 years

    Husky T540I XP

Had the cover on this one since day 1. I have another 540i without the cover and cleaned it as well, similar amount of debris inside. It will be part of the PM from now on.

    Husky T540I XP

I opened it and there was a shot glass worth of fine dust that came out of it. After that the motor freed up. Back to like new again.

    Husky T540I XP

After going through tough dead ash logs, the 540iXP motor just vibrates. Even without a bar and chain and the cover off, it just vibrates instead of spinning. Anyone had this happen?

The pull start on my woodmizer can take an arm off as well. I lower the head as low as possible to I do not get my arm/hand/wrist to hit the handles. These 14hp motors have so much compression.

Here is the worst of the beams I was running on the mill. Being further from side seemed to drive straighter as one of the surfaces ended flat/ not quite wavy. The cedar stash is growing too.

Thanks for the confirmation. I might stop taking spruce to the mill and propose the dumpster option to clients. Seems to be more hassle than it is worth. Here is some cedar that was enjoyable to mill

Background and question for the bandsawmill users (woodmizer, lucas, etc..). Why does my blade bend on fresh cut spruce leaving 1/4" valleys and peaks when it stays straight on oak, cherry and maple. Tension is the same, widths of cut (number of teeth in the wood) are close and log diameters are...

    Husky T540I XP

I have been running the T540i xp for 6 months with the 300 battery. Prior to this saw I was running a CS355T. Both have 14" bars. The wood I cut is, in decreasing volume order, ash, maple and red oak. In my opinion, both saws have enough power and I have not had to change a battery before...

Started on the sugar maple I took down yesterday. The ladder twisted like a twizzler. Took a couple passes to get back to a straight surface. I have a free ladder for whoever does not want to use it for chainsaw milling.

Thanks B. Here is the first cut. I just used my regular cross cut chain so I am expecting even better results with a rip chain. There is a winch on the sled. It makes the work effortless.

Back to more basic questions, I was talking to a chainsaw mill owner and he was recommending me to go from 50:1 mix to 32:1 mix when using my 395XP while milling. I have always stuck to recommended manufacturer mix so I am wondering if this is can be done without tinkering with the saw.

Nice log. I wish I could get more than 12 ft straight of hardwood in the NorthEast. Every Ash, White Oak and Maple log I milled so far did not stay straight for more than 12 ft. Anything longer had a twist.
