I ran Stihl chain for 30 years. A couple years ago when I bought a new 395xp it came with Husqvarna x-cut chain. I liked it so much I bought a roll. Very nice chain, just about as hard as Stihl chain, very little stretch. And it is about half the price. Check out Stahl's, they sell by the loop...
I go for a shallow vertical face on valuable timber. 80% of the diameter across the face (if needed) not 1/3 of the tree depth. Very often can just shave the root flare - I try never to go deeper than the first cut the mill might take to "skin" the log.
That's a pretty spot, @SeanKroll. M and I camped there for several days a few years ago, enjoyed some very nice hikes.

Went and looked at some trees needing cut (pretty good sized job) and some machines for sale. Small walkabout in gorgeous weather, good for the soul, didn't realize that was what I needed. Took some pretty pictures.
Tons of rot, but there are a lot of solid sections, sadly very short because a line clearance co took it down.
There are no log trucks to hire. My guy cut ten feet of frame off his log truck and put a dump body on it last summer.
