I've noticed flowering pear trees all over LA with similar ailments: clump of dead leaves in the canopy, long suckers that are completely void of leaves, brown spots throughout rest of tree.

Y'all know anything about it?

We used to have to spray in the apples for this. Cut off the affected part and you should sterilize the tool is usually what is done in a residential type situation. There is also some streptomycin based stuff we used to spray when it was warm and rainy in the spring. It releases spores when it is that kind of weather and they can colonize new pieces either through a wound or through the blossoms. If you are going to spray you have to do it before the rainy weather.
