I love Callas, sometimes the national radio station here does a special on her, plays a bunch of recordings. Apparently she could be a difficult person when not singing, as divas are not uncommonly. Sometimes called the ultimate diva.
 
She hardly had a normal childhood, so not surprising. Its not always easy to listen to but I like opera because the delivery has arguably unsurpassed passion and conviction.

I met and had dinner with Jose van Dam, at the time considered the greatest operatic baritone alive. They asked me to translate at a dinner party for him and a bunch of big wigs and some others, after he was here to give a concert at a festival. Surrounded by his adoring fans, he was the nicest guy to them, very humble and pleasant. I really learned something that night. To be world class at the top, having been a star in the finest opera houses of Europe and living in a castle given to him by the idolizing king of Belgium, there is no need not to be kind. I also much enjoyed sitting next to his quite attractive and considerably younger than him girlfriend.
