Last job we finished a little snow was left on some of the gear , have packed up in the rain in the past as well. A few days later I open the case and their was some collected water and my Spikes needed a wire brush. Didn't think much of it and closed it back up. About a week after that I opened thing rigging Pelican to add a couple things to the climb Pelican. Imagine my dismay when my gear looked like salvage. Had mold on my Buck pads , some on the Puma , and every snap and my Spikes need thorough wire brush. Seems the purge valve failed , cleaned and dried everything then took the air compressor to the valve which seems to have solved the problem. I do remember one on EBay w a bad purge.

Did the valve actualy fail? My understanding that the valve's job is just to let air out to regulate pressure inside and let some vapor out. If there's water inside, the valve can't really GET the water out.

... a two piece valve and the term "failed" was probably some fine sawdust blocking it. Valve actually does purge moisture quite well

When on Snow the wheels don't help so often flip the case over and drag on the smooth top side. Probably when the dirt or sawdust got in the valve

I did that in the sand in Iraq with no issues. What got me was keeping it in a truck under a bunch of gear. I think the constant bumps shook sand into the valve over time. Ruined most of my porn and some whatever items uncle Sam owned. I had it backed up on a hard drive though so nothing important to national security was lost.

Pretty sure sand would ruin a porno....
I loaned my airspade out, it came back via freight and I didn't open for a couple weeks, all wet and rusty. Grrr
