I thought that I'd post this video again for those who haven't seen it. The climber did a good job with the rigging to mitigate the hazard.

Cool vid. Surprising an experienced guy like that doesn't wrap his thumb.
 
I know very well the thumb thing, but I do without it often with the T handled saws. Actually, the thumb put on the side helps to stabilize the saw, almost doubling the lever in the folded hand to control the rolling movement when an accurate grip is needed for precision cutting.
 
That's an interesting way to rig the odd shaped logs, but it needs a so hollowed trunk that I most likely would be frozen by fair up there.
