sappy cherry tree

One branch on this cherry is putting out a lot of sap. Hasn't happened before. Thoughts? Second pic is the tree three years ago. Sorry, the pics refuse to shrink and the first pic won't post upright.

Had someone go out to look at the tree. They said it is a sapsucker bird that does this and gets the tree to leak and eats the ants it attracts. It's dried up now.

I was wondering that, too. From the pic, I don't see any holes like the bird makes. I will personally go look at the tree in a few weeks when pruning.

Went out to prune the cherry today. No sapsucker holes and everything is all dried up. Guess I won't worry about it for now. See if it comes back next year.

Any dieback in canopy. Prunus is prone to bark beetles and cytospora canker here, both of which can bleed. Clearwing moths can be problematic too. Check the root flair and root system via air spadeto rule out SGRs.
Doesnt look like sap suckers

Another set of cherry trees. Leaves look healthy, but the bark has something going on. Sun scald?
