2 red oaks browning / dying on one side

Did something spill? Maybe dig and check the soil and roots under the dead branches.

Any excavation or grading work done relatively recently? Anyone do any pruning this spring? How bout anyone driving equipment between the 2 trees?

Thank you guys so much for your replies and sorry for not updating sooner. Supposedly there are no cases of oak wilt in this area. The carport from my memory is 1.5-2 years old. I don't think there was anything spilled, reason I say that is smaller things growing under are ok. An extension agent I asked said possibly a root rot or other wilt disease. I'll check it out over the weekend and see what change there is.

Take samples and send to nearest diagnostic lab. Dont rule out construction damage or something else abiotic. Look into: twig girdler and twig pruner, oak diplodia, cicadas, and botryosphaeria canker, and two lined chestnut borer. Doesnt look quite right for oak wilt or bacterial leaf scorch.
