Happy Winter Solstice

I never even considered that. I guess that's a thing? Borrow money to buy presents? Seems that would take some of the fun out of it.

Its nuts.

All the banks in the town to the west of me offer "holiday loans". Usually higher interest than normal as well.

Between Christmas tunes and Holiday loans/sales/offers, there is not much else on the radio.

Pawn shops, casinos, and loan sharks. Jeezlus....I hate towns.

It's not about the presents anyways. I mean presents are nice. I just like having a good time with family/friends. Enjoy some drinks and a hell of a feast.

As we do every year we have the big Christmas dinner at our place. I cook the bird, keep the fires stoked, spike the drinks! Christmas is a hell of a good time to me.

Yep, apparently sometime when we were not looking , christmas turned from being the worship of jesus to being the worship of mammon.

I'll stick with solstice.

It’s about family/friends who are family.

I said to the (20 years younger) hired man as he left (who’s slightly irritating mother is staying at their house over the holidays) “be nice, imagine how much I would like to spend Christmas with my mother”

Shit, the way I see people living nowadays.....the whole damn country is a bit overboard.

I did splurge a bit though.....I bought the wife a fancy new rotary cutter for fabric.

That way she can keep patching my clothes. Dont tell her though.....its for Christmas!

The entire world has family and friends.

Or are you saying there is no thanksgiving for the rest of the world?

I'm so confused

Well put Bob.
Gave Lilly her little gifts last night for her birthday and some cake.
Taking Levi to go see Star Wars Last Jedi today. Just the two of us.
We go over to my mom's tomorrow.
Prime rib dinner festivities here on Christmas day with the kids opening gifts.
Then after new years, Katy takes the kids to Idaho to see her parents and brothers.
Bachelor week.

Prime rib???

Read up on how the Christians ursurped the old holidays by placing theirs close to them, then call it " same party, different name".

Solstice has been celebrated for millenia before the silly christianity came along.

This is what makes it hard to discuss things with Americans. The almost total lack of historical perspective.

Jim is completely different in that aspect, he probably has a better grip on the history of our planet than I do, but some of the rest of you.....................:|:

At least it is a cold.

I'd give anything to log in winter again, instead of the mud logging we do these days.

Those Climate change deniers should come spend some time with me, logging beech trees in the mud.

But then that is actual work, they may not do so well with that.

that was my point. we have been celebrating the solstice for millennia, we just call it a different name.
