Why is it called tension less? What are we comparing this to?

The name "Tensionless" has been deprecated. However, suggestions for some alternative, e.g., "High Strength Tie-Off", or "Multi-Wrap Anchor", have not gained favor – for the obvious reason that "Tensionless" is in widespread use.

There is no tension on the termination of the line. Its like a tightly wound POW that doesn't have any tension at the cleat. With enough wraps there is no tension at the end, and Theoretically would hold without securing the end.
