Chip Box Build

Update on our chip box. My brother built a wood jig to keep everything square. We have to take those out soon to paint, so I think he's going to weld in some temporary steel supports.

Looks like a roll cage, sweet!

See those gaps on the outside where the sheet meets the tube. Will you put anything there to keep from filling up and rotting? Maybe silicone caulk?

Fred, where's he going to put in the temp supports? Just at the bottom to keep it from flexing in? It looks braced really well everywhere else.

Brendon, yeah we are going to use a seam sealer for those gaps and the gaps between the sheets of steel on the wall and roof.

Adam, we were talking about the temp supports today and trying to figure out what we be best. Even though the box is pretty solid right now, there is still a lot of pressure on the wood supports in a few spots. I think we are going to try a few X type supports, one on each end and one in the middle. The bottom is definitely what we are worried about. We may even put a few straight supports across the bottom. We are going to leave them on until the box is lifted on to the truck, and then we can cut them off and touch up the paint on the inside. Hopefully we can keep everything true and straight the whole time.

She's all done. Right at about 30 cubic yards, about 10 yards bigger than the old box. The underside of the top has a rhino lining like paint.

Looks great, Fred.

I've wondered about a fully enclosable and lockable box, so as to be able to secure gear inside. Had that on my homemade wooden box. Enough to keep an honest guy, honest, and deter people in parking lots, etc. I would back the truck up against a wall at night, as possible, though the whole of it was wood, except the screws.

I didn't hear anything about a woody Stephen.:|: Musta been your inside voice.

Outstanding work. I admire the hell out of people that can build something beautiful from nothing.

And yes, I agree with Eric, sweeeet beard.
I miss my beard. It was the worst beard ever, but I do miss it so.
