Riding the crane on your hitch

Wonder why they don't come up with a locking snap, say secured with a pin or something, it doesn't seem very difficult. Never have seen one on a crane. Use it when required. Hanging off the hook there is no interference from the block. A new thing is some kind of magnetic snap that can be opened and closed remotely. Apparently guys getting injured when hooking and unhooking is somewhat common with moving heavy loads type industries

I've seen stuff pushed off a hook with a properly functioning spring snap. One wonders how? Fortunately, no climbers, and so far nothing holding much weight.

I'm excited for the day I get to bring a crane in on a job. .. :) I'd probably go with the shackle/fs above the ball approach just cause its by the book, and I don't have any committed practices yet. Does anyone have a picture that id's the different parts of the crane hook area? Ie, hook, shackle... becket is the one I'm not familiar with.

The beckett connects the ball to the cable.

There is usually a way to hang a cambium saver above the hook, or tight on the hook behind the sling or chain. Either way I use one in preference to the old days of standing on the sling

I will girth hitch a six foot friction saver on the cable above the beckett and and go threw the rings big to small.

Old skool cool here. Just the same as butch, clip in the hook with my climbing line and away. Or even just stand on the piece...

Not allowed climb line in the single-action hook here as life support, but usually toss my lanyard through hook to back up
if it is a brushy ride through the canopy and possibility of snags; tend to use
a steel triple-action biner holding a large stainless CMI pulley above the ball, with
climb line through that with friction hitch/HH/ whatever I grab that day...
One outfit has eyes on the becket with a large steel teardrop on it, will clip into that as it is massive.
