    Default CDL Self-Certification Affidavit

So I received this official-looking paper the other day telling me my CDL will be cancelled if I fail to fill out and return the latest Big Bwudda form. Never mind that I pay $55+ every 4 years, I must jump through the next hoop in order to keep it valid. Next year they'll probably want me to stand on one foot in the rain and whistle Dixie three time before allowing me to keep it....

Anyone else get one of these? And which category should I check? I don't even need the thing, but I wish to keep it active as that's easier than seeking re-certification in the future should I need it. I'm thinking I would be "Excepted Interstate" as I do cross state lines, though as I am in a car or pickup, I don't really see what difference it makes. Ah the joys of bureaucracy...

You have my admiration, Stig. Freedom is a wonderful thing! It's just like everything else....it's relative!

    Sorry.
I was being ironic in a big way.
Guess I didn't manage to get that across, or you'd have to know commies to get it.

One thing those countries, that we who live there call moderately socialist, and the rest of you call communist, are REALLY good at, is control and looking over your shoulder.

Maybe Alabama is the only state doing this right now, but it says it's some new federal change or somesuch. The last thing I need is to check the wrong box and have my license suspended.

Doesn't it give some contact info for where to get additional information? Website, phone number?

Only a fax number for faxing in the required information. It does give a web address if one wants to submit it electronically. I've nearly done away with my CDL twice, but each time, they tell me they can't "take it off" my license unless I go before the examiner. Talk about ridiculous....I told the lady I wasn't wanting to add anything, but rather take it off. She said ANY change to a CDL requires approval by an examiner. I didn't have the time to go see the examiner, so I just paid the extra and kept the CDL. Is no one else getting these, or have you all gotten them already and Alabama is behind on the times?

Well, I went ahead and guessed at which category. I checked "Excepted Interstate". The website was pretty straightforward, other than the fact that it basically assumed if you lived and breathed you needed a CDL. No mention of folks who just wanted to keep their CDL current, but were not currently involved in CDL operations.

I received it last year and we are supposed to declare here the next time we need to renew our license. I haven't the foggiest idea what I am supposed to check either. The definitions were not clear on that piece of paper.
