If this doesn't make you go "damn...", nothing will.

Tell me that cat wasn't on the phone all night with his buddies like "Get a load of this, you aren't going to believe what happened today!"

Brutal.

This one is super duper cool. I know it's long but I couldn't stop watching. The part where he takes the wood out of the steamer and bends it is just amazing. What do you think Jay?

Leon, nicely equipped shop, all the gear to machine heavy pieces of wood. The design of that piece I'm not so keen on, but kudos for the novelty of how he makes it. I wonder how he can take green wood from the log and have it completed in seven days with a finish on it?. Steaming does shorten the time needed to dry it, but smaller dimensioned stuff I steam, I usually have to let it sit and dry for around six weeks before the moisture drop is sufficient to give stability. I would think that little table is going to warp pretty drastic. Maybe for video purposes he accelerated the process? Working semi green wood must not be fun, using those real coarse grinders and such, the Oak must be stringy fibrous. I wouldn't knock it if he enjoys it, but a more traditional approach would seem to have something better going for it. Pretty crude woodworking there, imo, but nice to see someone with the freedom to do his own thing in a shop like he has put together. The possibilities are endless.

Jay, I wasn't too taken with the design either, but was fascinated by the process. The milling and steaming were really cool.

You make a good point about the drying time. I wonder if the filmmaker was taking some liberties and leaving out some important bits, like the drying of the slab. Should have been like one of those cooking shows: "Now the turkey goes into the oven for an hour and a half. Here's one we made earlier!" I find it hard to believe that he would work a green piece of wood like that.

I'd love to see any pictures you have of your recent (or not so recent) work.

Thanks, Leon. Been doing some case work lately. A lady and her friend wanted one each of a simple small cabinet with an open space above, in American Black Cherry. Simple, but still pretty time consuming, lots of fiddling around. A ten hour drive way down south to Shikoku island to deliver them, and seeing some new territory was enjoyable as well. Some amazing over the sea bridges down that way, both carrying cars and trains. Huge projects from when the country was in good economic shape.

I like making gun cabs, only problem is few folks have guns here, and the law specifies that you can't show them off. Might even be a metal locker requirement. Pretty lame.... In the states you can do some cool trades for gun cabinets. Traded once for a lifetime salmon fishing ride on a boat, but then I moved away.

Sorry for the derail.

Some posted over time in the work pics thread, I think it was. I'll try to send some links if I can find them. Thanks.

MASTER CRAFTSMAN !!! How much do you think that table cost?
