Hi everyone,

I went to a great seminar today at Filoli.
http://www.filoli.org/?gclid=CIKAubDbuKYCFQkGbAodoyYsIg

It was all about Tree Failures.
If you are in California, you can contribute and access data from the
California Tree Failure Report Program.
http://ucanr.org/sites/treefail/
They just breached 5000 total reports, with 175 entries last year 2010.
Pictures, soil conditions, species, etc.

If you are anywhere else in the world and would like to Contribute.
Try the International Tree Failure Database
http://svinetfc2.fs.fed.us/natfdb/
Need to become a member in order to access.

I stopped reading on page 7 when I got to

In order to become a cooperator in tree failure analysis with the ITFD, a training class is required. T

I'm sure they want the reports to be filled out right and all...but you'd think reading a 70 page document would be adequate.

Deva, is there more to it than I am seeing here?

I am/was a member of the international database, I took a course a few years ago but I stopped submitting reports when I realized that they were not taking location information. To me it makes the data invalid as any failure could be reported multiple times with no way of verifying or tracking the reports.

More than adequate; my training was a 40-minute talk. :P

I think that if you demonstrate that you know wtf you are doing then you can probably contribute.

i use it to prove to clients the recorded percent of failures, related to their tree's species.
blows people away, and it's neutral....no influence for profit or bias with the program

i dont contribute to it, should but dont have time

Nick, that's for the International one, one can contribute anyway if you read the instructions.

Don't get hung up on what they tell you, just do it anyway.

Still a good resource. In my little tiny opinion.

Then I shall continue reading.

It showed that like 2% of the reported failures are in LA. Yikes- I know we have a TONNNNNN more failures than that! I want to make sure we repreSENT!
