Had 2009 DD45 slammed down onto the Earth, it would have exploded with the force of a large nuclear blast somewhere in the Pacific Ocean west of Tahiti.

Man, this was too close for comfort!!! :\:

Story.

That was a pretty close one. Estimated to be 21-47 meters in dia. traveling at 8.82 km/s. This thing could have been really ugly if it had impacted.

Would have made a real big boom or splash or both.... Just imagine what the tidal wave could have done .... I know this is going to sound sick... But I would like to see a small earth hit in my life time.

I mean really small Chip. Not the apocalyptic size :D
And not in a largely populated area. ;)
Shoemaker Levy 9 yielded a lot of information for science but was huge and on Jupiter. Earth hits are a pretty rare commodity in discovery through observing progression. From discovery to a hit. Plus the study after impact. Even a moon hit that we could observe would be really awesome.

We had a small one 23 weeks ago. Real small.
I was sitting right here at the computer at night, when the sky lit up. I thought someone had shot off a Very light.
Next day I heard it was a meteorite.
A skidderdriver, I work with was driving his car, when it blew up. He got blinded and had to pull over and wait fot his nightsight to return. They estimated that one at a few pds only.

OMG the end is coming..... better stock up on ammo. lol

Of course not..... I'll use the .44 mag.... it's bigger!:D

Lucifer's Hammer is a GREAT read - I need to read it again.

This is so cool, yet so sad too.

That WAS cool.

The Great Gig in the Sky... I love that song.

Hell boys three more went by us today, none were as close as this one, and there are 34 more that they know of which will be passing by before the end of the month. The next close one will be here on the 6th, 2009EW but it will be 300,000 kilometers away. Here's a good pic of one that was seen around the Texas Oklahoma border, I don't know what year.

There are 6021 NEO's known, with more being found all the time.
