    Training A Crow

A big way of learning for those birds is watching how other crows/corvids do it. It isn't only the case though, they can be problem solvers by using their own intellect, said to be the most advanced among all birds. In captivity they also seem to be considerably less interested in other...

    Training A Crow

One thing that I saw with the crow that I had, was that after being given food to survive, it had a very difficult time learning to forage for eats itself. I tried to encourage that, have it scratch around for insects which comprise their main diet in the wild, but even when hungry, which was...

    Training A Crow

That's a distinct possibility, very social birds within their group, but they don't like what they consider an intruder. Kill or drive it away.

    Training A Crow

Very cool. Are they wanting to keep and possibly train it, or return it to the wild? I think different approaches depending.

Ya, I really meant it when I said that bike riding is not nearly the same. Fairly boring now.

    Training A Crow

That would be cool, Jim. He could tell his mates what goes on in a human's house and when allowing a lot of people to be kind, and what it is like to eat a diversity of FRESH store bought food. He'll get some envy.

    Training A Crow

I think there is a good chance that Hank may have flown into one of he vast rice fields on three sides of the shrine, and become stuck in there. You see crows in those fields hunting around when the plants are young, but now that they have bushed out and become quite thick and tall congested...

    Training A Crow

Thanks for the thoughts. I read where it is advised not to clip a Corvid's wings, as they use them a lot for basic stability, say when moving around on a perch for example, or just a little jump up onto something. They are different from Parrots that way. I kept thinking that if i went back to...

    Training A Crow

If you observe crows, they are very social beings. With some luck, hopefully Hankl finds some mates. I hope he comes back, but if he is well on his own, that is cool too. I'll miss the bike rides most, was meaning to get a video. It was really cool.

    Training A Crow

Hank was last seen flapping off into the night. We were on a late in the day ride and I didn't have him secured well enough, maybe because I had some make me dumb beer before starting out. It was at a close by shrine not far from my shop, a place with a lot of large and thickly branched trees...

    Training A Crow

Hard to say, Jim. Those birds certainly are very sensitive to sounds, especially ones that they haven't heard before....give a funny cock of the head, like wtf? Some sounds, like a weed whacker, seem to freak them out. I get the impression that Jimmy Hendrix is a more preferable one for Hank...

Nice vid, MB, reminds of Hank. I'd be thinking to get it over with quick though, before a big glob of white poop on my guitar. I've been leaving the radio on at night to keep Hank company alone at the shop, a classical station. 8)
