The spitfire vid is really cool. Too bad the original pilot never saw it recovered.

It seems like a telling study could be done on snipers. Being in that kill mode all the time must surely affect one's psyche. I had a buddy who was a Marine sniper in Vietnam, but he never made it home to see how he was doing. Killed by small arms fire in Quang nam province,12/07/68.

Cool pics, Ed. Being a machine gunner in an open cockpit seems like it would be a pretty wild thing to do. Those IL2s have a rather mean look about them. Did it say if Ms. Yegorova can cook?

Wonder what happened to the work ethic? Was it Brittish Leyland where they caught the night shift in their pajamas?

With the Harrier, letting go of the stick and the plane doesn't stay in place, as mentioned, reminds me of an old ten ton crane that I used to work with. No automatic brake on the cable and the operator only had one usable hand. :O

Dropping the atomic bombs was justifiable to the planners of the operations for a few reasons; ending the war against a fervent enemy that didn't surrender easily, justifying the enormous expense that had gone into developing the weapons, revenge for Pearl Harbor, and last but perhaps not least...

Tibbets has taken a lot of heat, at least indirectly. I saw a documentary about one of the guys in the Enola Gay flight crew that came to Japan and met with some survivors of the blast. I don't recall if it was Tibbets. They tried to eek an apology out of him, but he wouldn't budge on it...

John Denver, I believe was flying some type of experimental plane when he crashed into the sea (lake?) and was killed. I recall a report that he had been drinking before taking off.

Getting both a plane and heli license in the states is relatively inexpensive compared to some other countries. A friend here gave up midway due to the costs, and now holds the national glider flight distance record. Been up with him once until my stomach couldn't take it anymore. I often...
