For a year or two, I have seen a similar appearing hub on the cheaper commuter bikes here. Shimano might have cooked up something similar. Thanks for posting the vid. So, no click stops when changing gears?

The market for bike innovations is huge. A lot of it is fashion oriented, people must have the latest and the greatest, but amidst all of it are some great developments. The bottom line however, is that a bike doesn't have to have any of the new stuff to be thoroughly enjoyable. If it is a...

That wheel base looks pretty short for casual riding. Not everyone can be a sponsored racer making big bucks. I have never ridden a bike with disc brakes, didn't even know that they were available on cross, or maybe even road bikes now. I guess they are pretty nice?

It happens with with no freewheel on a single speed, getting launched or close to it. If you ride a few bikes with different set ups, it can be easy to forget that you can't stop pedaling. The reminder comes quick. :O Brakeless bikes have recently been outlawed here, and they specify two...

Jeff, ever ride at a high banked track? Fortunate to have one in the next town over, where once there were pro keirin gambling races held. The tack is open to the public now for a small daily use fee, or a season pass. I make it over there now and then, and it is seldom used, maybe a couple...

Cyclecross seems to be either in your blood or not. Agreed, like it or not, a great way to stay in shape.

It might be Holland where they have loaner bikes, I think for free. You pick one up at some station, make your way to your destination, then drop off the bike at the closest loaner station. Something along those lines. Pretty forward thinking it occurs, if they have worked out the logistics.

The urban planners not riding a bike for their own interest, has a lot to do with the inadequacy in their scope of what would be the most ideal situation to come up with to both suit cars and bicycles. My area in terms of scenery, is ideal for cycling, and could be a big draw to help alleviate...

Bikes are definitely a legit way to travel. Personally, I have logged over 100,000 kilometers during the years commuting to my shop. Kevin, I think it is pretty hard to point a finger directly at either party in the bikes vs cars conflict. I once rode through downtown Tokyo, including an...

Riding at might is a whole different ballgame. I ride home from my shop in the dark, usually leaving after 7PM. I have definitely observed that cars approaching from behind will begin to apply their brakes considerably earlier with a flashing rear light, compared to just having the plain...

In places where the people making the laws are cyclists themselves, you will find a lot friendlier environment for riding. My area gets a lot of tourists, so there are a number of rent-a-bike places. There are also the more regular riders from the big cities, particularly the mad house of...

That's a good point, MB, keeping up with traffic is the sign of a cyclist, riding wisely and harmoniously at speeds, and not just someone on a bike. Cyclists should be courteous to drivers, and not think that they can ride and block traffic. When I said that cyclists have priority, I meant...

When I'm on a bike, I don't want special consideration. I just want people to follow the law; pedestrians, cyclists, then cars, that is the priority in the law. I sympathize with people's impatience, but it is tough titty.

I hear ya Kevin. You meet all kinds on the road, and being on a bike makes it pretty easy to tell where they are coming from. Late Friday is bad, lots of stress out there. You can hear it too, the way people gun their engines. Sunday tends to be a lot more casual, except for the perpetual nut...

I don't normally ride on the sidewalk, but some stretches of road can be very unsafe with cars. I don't see a problem doing a stint on the sidewalk if nobody is walking there. People do need to understand the safety priorities with pedestrians, cycles, and cars. That the weaker or more...

You can switch out components. The brakes might be good, but at a later time upgrading the derailer or something could be useful.

Looks like your size, Brendon, the seat tube is about right, anyway. I don't have any experience with that component group set, but it appears to be mid range between higher end and entry level. Shimano makes good gear. It would probably serve you well.
