    Ropetek Hitch Hiker

The Ropetek HitchHiker made its debut with the recreational tree climbers last weekend. Just got back from the 'International Tree Climbers Rendezvous' in Mount Hermon, CA, where I showed a few folks the HitchHiker. Nick, Sam, and I set up a workshop called, "Would You Climb On That?" One...

Stig, I am in LA right now with Nick. Tomorrow will be a normal work day, cable bracing some trees. The next day we drive to Mount Hermon, CA where the Coast Redwoods are all of 180 to 200 feet tall. There we will attend the Tree Climbers Rendezvous over thhe weekend before heading back to LA...

Nick, I used it first day on Poison Hi-Vy with the cord supplied by Paul. Worked just fine. Just packed my bags for a West coast trip. For hitch cord I'm bringing two Bee Hive, one Bail-Out, one Ocean Poly, and the original HH-supplied cord. I have a 120ft Blaze motion Lanyard and unless I fit...

Is the dogbone steel?looks to me to be the main 'link' to be researched. What bending force would it take before failure, especially with the shape which incorporates an edge or two which might well be considered stress-risers.

Nice and compact. Is the sandwiched piece flat against the rope or ribbed?

    Ropetek Hitch Hiker

Did you say "snapped around the rope easily", meaning mid-line attachable? or just threadable from an end? What first pops into mind is a short section of aluminum coil (looks like a spring, but doesn't compress) which has the dimensions mentioned and is milled flat on top and bottom, all edges...

Even a lower than melting point temperature over a long time can cause issues with some materials. Maybe that is what you're referring to Willie? The instances when one might 'heat up' an HH and the rope tend to be episodic, with plenty of cool-down time in between. That fact and the...

    Ropetek Hitch Hiker

Your spring idea is a stroke of genius; such a simple built-in safety. It seems that dialing everything in: hitch, cordage, 'biners, rope, spring strength/length will likely be unique, as each climber will have his/her own set of variables. A thought: would a thicker, forged aluminum Ropetek HH...
