Monkey Slide - building a water slide

Not so far...they are carriage bolts...cinched down tight. Thanks for asking though...we need to go back thru them all and retighten them before we start sliding again this summer.

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

It didn't but I was watching closely...and going slow under some of them. Looks...I had two kids, 6-8 years old try to chase me down...they were laughing and pointing the whole time.:D

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

In the next to last picture you can see the highest section that we will be connecting to...the yellow circle over the fire hydrant.

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

OK...we are back on task. Got by last year with the ladder still. Alex has bought the wood for the final access tower...scabbed together some very long 6'x6' posts...I think they are 32-35' long. They will be the supports for the enclosed walk-up tower that gives the kids safe access to the...

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

We got the high corner installed earlier today...the still shots are below...as well as video of today's test. I was able to get home in time to help Alex orchestrate a test of the newest sections. I set up a "boy cam" on Hayden for the first run of the 40 feet of slide we have so far. You...

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

I am not sure what you mean by joking...you are right...the plan has always been to turn that corner and extend along the high side wall. Alex figured it out but I don't remember the final height...around 25-30 feet, I think.

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

Alex and I discussed "warp speed" yesterday. I had to leave right after we got the piece set. He bolted it in place and he and 4 year old Landon tried it out...fast...yep. Alex went head first and tried to hydroplane...that's what our first concern is...he could not make it happen yet...he's...

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

We have been plugging away on the water slide...today we raised the next 14 foot tube. I set some pullies yesterday to lift the tube...use bamboo to brace one limb and used a redirect in another tree to get the pulley over the lift point. We had planned to make a large tripod to hoist the next...

Haha. Thx for keeping me straight. Carl. Make that closer to 300 lbs. We have 14 foot tubes.

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

Those boys were probably as wide open as I have ever seen them. They are chomping at the bit to be "test dummies" again. Alex said we have to officially test each section as we get it installed. I figure maybe the youngest will only be mildly terrified that way since he will be gradually...

Jay, don't miss post #24 where I posted the second video...you were posting while I was posting. You can see some of my big Moso bamboo waiting to be set up for the next tripod.

Gawd, Jay...that's a scary word when I think about what this thing is going to be.

And then there was camera 2...same time frame as original video but this camera was hand held and roving the whole time. I have not tried merging/synchronizing two cameras yet. Still trying to wrap my brain around how that will work...makes me appreciate folks like August and Bixler who use...

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

Yeah, but I think the interest will last for a few years...what with Landon only being 4. And the local Boy Scout troop that Alex and I still work with sometimes will be all over it. They usually come swim at least once each summer...they'll probably wear it out. And what they hey...how often...

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

Alex and I figure a 10' tube is probably 200 pounds...I just talked to a playground tube supplier...their 10 foot section of 30 inch diameter is 162 lbs...I am not sure of the thickness of their tubes. Our tubes are pretty stout...I figure at least 200 pounds to be safe. Mainly they are just...

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

10-4 on anchors...so far we have been able to use trees...this slide may block one anchor and require us to sink a telephone pole at some point. That may be NEXT year. I have some bigger bamboo for the next section...after that we will probably have to use some powered lifting equipment we...

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

You are pretty savvy...she saw it yesterday for the first time. Up 'til then it was only a idea she heard us talking about...seeing the real thing starting to appear set off her "somebody is going to get hurt" alarms. I assured her we are being careful. What else is a guy to do???? She had...

Monkey Slide - building a water slide

Alex did the first test run to be sure it shoots folks out far enough past the edge of the pool...we have an extension/lip that is not installed yet which will project folks still further. First few rides in the video are kind of slow...then they pick up. Before testing it we were concerned...
