 A real stump puller. A friend of mine says there are two types of guys...big, strong, stump pullers and skinny whippy fast guys. Each is useful at times.

First video, very impressive. Second....not so...the "self defense" stuff like that always makes me crazy. One guy throws a punch and the other snaps our a dozen responses...while the original attacker just stands there and gets hit. Weird stuff.

I think biggun has the right idea...the basics for almost ANY sport is gymnastics...learning how to efficiently use your own body. It teaches kinesthetics (awareness of where you are) and you have to understand where you are and what is possible before you can decide what to do...be it karate...

Makes sense to me...high kicks are primarily for aesthetics for most folks...more fantasy than function.

There you geaux...your body spoke, you listened and it sounds like y'all can get along. If you do as Stig said and slowly work on that flexibility you can slowly raise your kicks. As the head monk used to say, "Patience, Grasshopper".

Let the other guy kick high..you attack the exposed targets...leg, groin, balance.

Listen to your body..it is talking to you. A murmur of discomfort is OK...pain is telling you to modify what you are doing...either the technique or the range of motion where you are trying to use it. Nothing magical about kicking high...way over-rated...Hollywood stuff. The higher you kick...

If it hurts the technique could be wrong..or your body might not be ready to do that technique. Is the hurt from doing the technique in the air or hitting a bag/pad? If you try to do a kick too high you can exceed your flexibility and get sore or tear/strain tissue...same can happen if your...

That was excellent...the big guy had some great moves to avoid punches...he never did cut loose like he could have. The security guys were awful.

Very good likelihood it will be very physically demanding. If you want to get inspired track down the movie "Yamada, Samurai of Ayothaya"...some very excellent MT can be seen there. And don't forget the Ong Bak movies with Tony Ja...wonderful stuff.

Aiki-jutsu would be a more pragmatic art...the original, combative form of aikido. A "do" art has been made "safer" to train...e.g., judo vs ju-jutsu, Judo is more competition oriented, jujitsu is more combative. You'll run into 3 basic kinds of arts...aesthetic, athletic and combative...
