Yep, although the distance grows with higher voltages.

I'd imagine they make a huge difference over just the Alturnamat? I have a job to wrap up which involves taking my grapple truck across a (wet) yard to pull out 5-6 loads of chit from two other houses. My plan is to double up the 4x8 mats turned long ways (tires centered on the 4' width)...

I really like the ladder cribbing on top of the mats! Do they roll out or handle them with the crane? 4'x20'?

A lot of aerial machines have switches in the outrigger pad to detect when the pad is getting light. It's a simple arrangement, a simple spring loaded affair that is compressed when the outrigger pad is in contact with the ground. My lift sets off an alarm if an outrigger gets light, although...

:) My theory is if it's not adding appreciable support, what's the point? If it is adding support, then refer back to my original point of point loading the structure of the outrigger. A hypothetical I came up with.... Imagine what would happen if the ground under the outrigger pad...

Just passing along information... I have no dog in this hunt. :-)) Like suspending the load from the shackle above the ball... just because it's done and has been done for years doesn't make it proper.

Why does he do that? Outriggers are reasonably highly engineered. Point loading the boom by placing a support anywhere but the outrigger pad is likely not factored in... kinda like making a pick with the crane's boom resting on a bridge, for example. Sure it adds more support to the boom, but...

Man that looks more and more like a rough terrain crane than an all terrain! It's gotta be nice how small of an area you can get it in. Are you doing more operating or climbing these days?

Looks good, Paul. One 70t here has a similar setup on the back of the crane for dunnage.

You had cribbing stacked 6' tall? Don't forget all the forces from the crane pass through the outriggers. You wouldn't wantbto slew yourself off a pedestal. There is another requirement to spread the outrigger's load over a suitable area for a given ground condition. The Grove RT635C has a...

I don't have any cribbing resource material. You don't want unsupported spans in the cribbing, and you want the base to be wider than the height of the stack by a decent margin (twice as wide as it is tall). Do you know the max load on an outrigger for your crane?

Can you collapse and lock the suspension or was that already done?

Bridging (not having the dunnage touching/solid all the way across a layer) is an industry accepted bad juju.

Snap cuts can be smooth as butter on vertical picks, that's my choice for taking down stems, usually.

The average tree removal isn't going to be worth more because you use a crane, although there will be situations where you can charge a premium for using a crane when it isn't required. The main benefit of a crane (or most equipment) is being able to do the same work faster at roughly the same...

Just wanna keep you around! Add to the fact that you're already a man down, and you are taking the best guy(assumption) and setting him in a cab making you two down?

If I was operating it, I would want at least the day before to play with it as much as I wanted, and to have someone there to help hook loads and such. There is no way starting on a tree job is a smart thing to do. Heavy equipment has little to do with crane work, and tree work is...
