I can relate to it. Even in the latter years of mechanization the ground was no less easy for a man to walk or work on. And it always will be.
I'm tickled that I can still get around on these slopes as good as I can. In recent years I felt that I would not be able to do it much longer...
That's a tough tree to get a good angle on. Let alone lighting. It's just so limited by all the little hemlocks and fir around it. A few should be taken out, I feel.

Terri and I just made it back from Jed Smith and Prairie Creek. Spent a few days going over some of the same trails trying to capture some trees in different lighting. Got a few good ones, but nothing...
That's a tough one to get a tape all the way around level. It's hard to tell in the images the grade of slope where you would base dbh. Certainly not from the crotch of that sucker.
Technicalities aside, it's a beauty!
