Made the call. One other estimate to be had. Spoke to wife, who I did not meet with at the estimate. We discussed options and reasons why I am leaving away from height reduction. She has been doing research online and my logic and reasoning coincided with the facts she has gathered about basic...

It does say a lot. IMO, people often want the comfort of hiring what is considered to be a company of high demand. Lousy companies aren't in high demand. Yes, cold calls do give that impression. Ive asked scores of people their take on being cold called. People outside the business. No way. Not dropping prices. I charge fair, and I do my best. Not looking to waste my career by working for competitors rates. Most of them are as broke 20 years into it as the day they started.

I wasn't sweating the loss of work to lower bids. I was just explaining why I haven't had good luck on follow up calls. It always seemed to come down to pricing.

I don't do follow ups. Not because Im against them. Ive tracked my leads and these days Im running on close to 85% repeat work/strong referrals. Im operating on an additional 5% volume of referrals from other tree companies. I could go and follow up with my random estimates from joe schmoe but...

Who does it? How well is it received? Does it close more deals? I don't do it. But Im curious about the flip side of the coin, and how it all works.
