    Nope, put a rope on it, thick hinge, and pull it quickly to give you inertia towards where you want it to go, then gravity will take it where its weight is, so plan aiming off accordingly.

    They will pretty much go where they are leaning, you will get a bit out of them, but not much, best to aim off, put up line if assets nearby you dont want altered :), a tapered hinge helps a bit depending on species, but dont rely on them to give you what you want. I mostly plunge cut, set...

    Difficult to answer, but I would offer, as little as possible to get the desired result. Often you will find the center of the stem rotted anyway, well around here they are. I guess it depends on what your trying to achieve by gutting it, and what either side of the hinge looks like.
