Damn, I didn't really read this before. Whatta set-up to try out. FWIW, after spotting a big cracked branch after heading down, I used my home made version of the haas and pantin and did about 40 feet in about 35 seconds, no climbing saw, as I was using it to weight the rope. About 50 bucks...

https://www.treestuff.com/store/catalog.asp?item=7987 some people use this style of pulley on the biner for slack tending. as Leon mentioned above #130. A visual for you.

yep. You can tape/ sharpie your hitch cord tail in order to know the sweet spot for the rope in the even you remove and replace the HH. I measured for my HTP for 7 wraps and an index finger long worth of tail. I will have to look at my PI currently set-up, measure my tail, then I'll know.

Bermy, does the bent gate nature of the biner help in some way as compared to a straight gate biner, or just coincidental?

I started trying the second tending biner with a dmm revolver on my smc bridge ring. It just fits in the narrow end of the revolver. A bigger ring won't. I wonder about one of those plastic pulley sheaves for the HH...

Just wondered, Stephen, if you would use the RW for those short 10' ascents that add up, using more leg power, and only using your arms/ hands to hold yourself in to the rope, to the extent possible. I try not to grip the rope, just get my hands sorta cupped around it.

My barn. cut the head off of a $5 hammer, just as it was very convenient. Hickory. Good wear. put your hole through at an angle, rasp or round file the edges, put some smaller junk rope in there, and work it back and forth to smooth. 10 minutes of work if you have all the tools at hand. I put...

quoting Cory: "Crazy question: If you had a Wraptor, would there be any reason to bother with a Haas system? Maybe for shorter ascents? Lighter to pack around?" My rope walker (variant on Porkbrick's) is like the HAAS, just more compact and cheaper, and maybe, guessing here with a bit of...

Ahhh, the hammer handle. Yep, folks, its as simple as a piece of wood with a diagonal hole in one end, and 30 cents of accessory cord on the other end, and being non-life support, a miser could try it with an old boot lace. If someone wants to tape a stick to that cord as a stiff tether, I...

After the box wrench original attempt, Kevin made wooden ones. A hammer handle is cheap and solid, and easy to come by. I was just discussing it with my groundie today, actually, as he is SRTing off some youtube video with a 6 coil prussic and foot loop above a figure 8. Primitive, but works...
