Girdling Roots and Grafting
One guy around here grinds 12" down from the top of the stump. He doesn't care if it's 10" above ground and 2" below or vice versa. If you want it deep you cut it low.- SkwerI

They are pretty soft and grind super easy. Our oaks are quite a bit harder and take a bit longer to grind, but pine is the slowest grinding because of the sap and tenacious wood grain.- SkwerI
