And a most valid point!

Jumpers would look like a heavy duty jumper cable for your car battery, except you clip it to the line and then clip the other end to a grounding rod that you hammer into the ground. My first bucket truck had a grounding cable on a spool on the back of the truck for grounding the truck to the...

Do they sell generators that don't make any noise these days? In a storm aftermath, the noise from generators is very easy to identify if there's one running within a block of you. Yes, there's always a possibility. But there's also a thing called 'calculated risk'. Knowing and fully...

    Would you do this?

No, touching a live 220v will kill someone. That's obviously (to me) something a climber would only attempt if he was 100% absolutely certain that there was no juice in the line. And since he was working emergency storm cleanup trying to get power restored, I think he was 100% certain the line...

They set you in the top of the tree for the work climb. Worst part is trying to get in the groove instantly and fly from limb to limb after standing around all day. Fat skwerl in a tree a couple years ago. I think I was 3rd out of 12-14 entries on the work climb. :/:

cool! Call me when you get down this way, I just spoke with Chip through PM a little while ago and we'll definitely have to meet up while you're here. :D

Ditto what my friend Chip said. This isn't ArboristSite or Tree Buzz. Nobody here has anything to prove. We're here to kick back and enjoy each other's company, not to try to prove ourselves by cutting others down. Ain't no kiddies here who need impressing, you're hanging with the old dogs here...

Yup, pole to pole secondary, that's what I was referring to. Bad habit of referring to secondaries (anything past the transformer) as a service drop. Butch, it's useful being able to identify different types of lines at a glance. I wouldn't necessarily call it 'speculating'.

    Would you do this?

Several years ago I went almost a year when I was unable to hold a top handle Echo one handed at arm's length shoulder high with the bar straight out. Looking back I realize now that I had torn something, but at the time I just thought I was weak and pushed myself harder, trying not to let...

    Would you do this?

That is completely ridiculous. I'm smart enough to be very comfortable working around non energized lines and have no problem using them for support or whatever AS LONG AS I KNOW THEY ARE NON ENERGIZED. Based on the storm damaged tree they are working on, I'll guess that it was not an isolated...

Plan your work and work your plan. Resourceful thinking of him to tie into the wires. He figured out all the angles, made sure everything was going to swing away from him and was tied in twice with good footing before making the release cut. Of course it swung him a little but he was expecting...
