I use the retractable undercarriage for moving between planting beds/ tight spaces as much or more than gates! Wide width for heavy loads on slopes and better control while towing the chipper, trailers, camper (my gf’s rental camper...just barely moved it to a better spot. The retracted tracks...

New or used? Weight? Transport situation (I can load mine into my forestry body, nose uphill, with 1” to spare). Width versus stability and capacity. they say any mini is better than no mini.

You need a mini. They are practically free if you have the work. You’ll clear an extra $500/ month for the payment. First storm you don’t have it, you’ll kick yourself. Trees come off houses much better, faster and easier. Allows you to skip some crane rentals if it’s really about things...

The bandit were be great. All chipping should be done with a face shield, IMO. I LOVE having two eyes. Visit and glasses. I think CnDs repeatedly give lessons to people who don't learn well. Hydraulic machines teach a lesson once! Both can eat ropes. Which climbing and chipping...

The discharge chute makes a significant difference, IME. Wayne /FMC make the best that I've seen, as it picks up and down from the base of the chute, rotates, and telescopes. A stationary, rectangular chute is too common, maybe with a side-discharge. My CnD, 4400 pounds, moves around off-road...

Put a log on the tray! Yes, the balance is important, but if you're rolling it??? I could flip mine over backwards from tow-chip position if I tried, but if the tongue is on the ground, I can just lift it, with most of my effort. A Maasdam rope puller will pull it where you point the puller.

We easily spun the chipper and pulled it out. In the past, I had a small (5-6" tall, 2" wide) trailer tongue-jack mounted wheel. Only good on pavement. This 12" pneumatic wheel works great.

Dead stuff feeds in backward better Sometimes, especially when its just a straight stick of a branch. Live stuff carries in dead stuff. Big stuff carries in small stuff. I got a 12" pneumatic swivel caster for my tongue. Today, Miriam and I spun the chipper 180* on hard soil, easily enough...

16" for a deal-price, well-maintained, sounds easy to flip for a profit, if you find you prefer your 12" diesel.

I'd try to find oem. A bigger, well maintained machine would be nice. What do you have for Hp now? The gasser? Capacity, now?

Much better idea, with your skills. A local guy got a dump box built with an L-pack toolbox, removable top, for his f550. Paid $15k just for the finished, painted box and toolbox!! I was astonished.

Have you found a chipper blade sharpening service? Some people have them listed as "planer" blades. Locally, a number of ACE hardware stores and a builder's supply houses have drop-off/ pick-up points for a professional sharpening service, with 1 week turn-around. Around $1/ inch, sometimes...

Those couplers are a PITA. I bought a 12" pneumatic swivel caster from TSC for $46 to quick-attach to my tongue for moving it around. Need to drill and grind a bracket a bit to mount. I bet yours is about the same weight. Might help with filling the bed of the truck with a stationary discharge...

That will make you money, and be a great back-up chipper if you upgrade, or sellable for a profit. My chute is round, and telescopes, rotates, and has the end deflector. Makes it easier to fill the box fully, in case you need a project (ya, right!), or somehow need to replace it. I hear you...

My blades are 'indexed' or ridged, along with the clamps. 3 ridges protruding from the clamp, 3.5 depending on how they came back from grinding, will put it as close as possible to the hexagonal anvil. I'll need to get you a picture. 4 funky threaded rods with square nuts press against the...

I'm glad I don't have to futz around with that. My anvil is hexagonal, and fixed in position. 6 edges per anvil. I've almost used up all the sides on the anvils that came with it. Same two sets of blades. Just get the blades as close as possible to the anvil.
