    The guy on the bottom isn't standing on the bottom rung, he's stabilized it to be on one ladder foot. No need for a leg extender.

    I stand on the top of the rails, sometimes, because I'm tied in, and stable. This seems to be the right height for a lot of canopy raises, with my 25' ladder.

    The extension ladder I typically use is nice and light, and rated for 250 pounds. I could only have a 6 years old hold the ladder for me by standing on it before going above the load rating.

    Would you rather have a dropped something on the semi-shielded underside, or a dropped whole person on the top-side. Someone slipping could easily break the neck of the person below.
