no worries at all Chris. Jed seems as honest as the day is long from what I've read in my short time here. Can't ask for more than that. You ever get a feeling that a thread has run its course though ? I was already getting that feeling a little while back. Probably its just me being self...
There's no bite or significant bends in the knot Sean, until you set the two half hitches at the end....but by which time you've already set two wraps around the log or limb. Point being, a knot chokes more effectively if its tightened by pulling back on itself....think of a cows hitch v a...
Speed and strength retention is the incentive for me when I judge it safe to do so....but if I were a teacher like those guys then security would always come first, and I won't argue that there are not better cinching knots out there. You can always cut smaller pieces after all.
You can't tie a clove in a limp wristed wishwashy fashion and expect it to be OK. It had to be set tight with the two half hitches snug against the crossovers. The halfhitches are to finish the knot, they shouldn't be thought of merely as backup. The near mid-tie in the video pulls the knot...
I am glad you posted, thanks for that. I would never use a clove for a block sling, or a tool for that matter.... But I've roped thousands of logs usimgna clove, without incident. Go figure. Last year I lost a log from the rigging for the first time ever. Using a strap to tip-tie a madrone....of...
Yeah you made it clear, I just didn't get the amen part.
I agree if you don't trust something you shouldn't use it. Last thing you want is to doubt something and to be proved right. There's probably things you would do that I wouldnt be so comfortable with either.
How it is for me, I don't...
It retains a lot if Rope strength and is quick to tie, Butch. Especially when reaching up like that. There s lots if times when I wouldnt use it, but have yet to lose a log, limb.... or water bottle for that matter.
Sean, like I said, 90 degrees for me is usually enough....and you could always face the log a little off from the block also, to be extra safe. That trolley was just the second prototype. It changed again after that for production and shipping purposes.
You're right Butch, the body of the 201is...
Sorry for the late reply, Ive been out this morning. The mid-tie, or near mid-tie makes the clove hitch more secure. A clove is a fast knot to tie and really strong, but probably not the best cinching knot out there. Its also better to put more line that side of the block than less, where...
I got some new stuff off Nick and co. Not sure if I was using it all correctly:)....but it held up pretty good.
Edit: Use HD setting
