actually the dish we have doesnt hold much. its gone long before it has issues with spontaneous composting. Also the doors and windows do a fairly efficient job of keeping the insects outside ;) I think the dish would hold 3/4 cup of butter.

yup. my wife doesnt believe me about it though, she stores the olive oil and grapeseed oil bottles above the stove, doesnt understand that being up there vs a cool pantry closet is why it goes rancid. Of course you have Costco to thank for that too, who knew our household would require olive...

we have both salted and unsalted butter in the fridge. Like Burnham's idea, some things we cook we dont want to add the salt and sometimes its fine. Wife likes to use unsalted if she bakes.

Our power here is provided by hydro electric for the most part, we pay 6 cents a kilowatt roughly. we did ditch our microwave a few weeks ago when it went kaput, no plans for replacement either.

My momma used to drink buttermilk, I sipped a sup of it once by accident, bleaugh. Had raw milk once too, my grandma got some for me when I visited her in Holland many years ago and made mention of milk and cereal for breakfast. lol I stomached it with a forced smile, couldnt hurt the old gals...

funny, we in Canada have butter and we have margarine (of various sources). Not much fake butter that I can say I have seen. Now when I went to camp near Gasoline's place last year, I went to the grocery store and couldnt figure out all the brands and products called 'butter'. ended up with some...
