    Propping a Pine

Paul, did it work? Looks way to short to be effective, but the shape of the tree might not of given you much choice

    Propping a Pine

Okay, here's a pic showing where it'll be. This is about 25' away from where the trunk meets the ground (it's hard to measure exact). The prop will be placed right under the spot where the trunk stops leaning and starts going straight up. I know it's hard to see by the pic. This diagram...

    Propping a Pine

So my welder gave me an estimate and it was literally 10X the cost of the last one he made. I think he thinks I'm making a ton of money off of this and he's trying to get in on the action or something, but anyway- I digress. I brought another welder into the mix. He's supposed to give me...

The bolt idea is recommended in the BMPs and the ISA is never wrong! :) I'd be down with pumping up the base area. There are some space limitations with the sight, but there's room to grow.

Damn straight! I like saving trees. Lady got 4 quotes for removal (all over $4,000) and I was the first one to even ask if she'd be interested in keeping it. You should've seen her smile. On 12/1/11 we had some scary wind storms and this tree lost a couple big limbs, but the whole system...

    Propping a Pine

The plan so far is to pour concrete with bolts upward facing inset in the concrete. When dry, prop would rest on concrete and get bolted in place. As you can imagine, I have a few questions to answer still: What size materials should the system be made of? The diagram shows 8" beams. Welder...

So this is what I presented to a welder today:

    Propping a Pine

Yeah. So what's my plan? Well, when I started the thread about the apple tree prop, SouthSoundTree pointed out that in the BMP's for propping they recommend no cup to hold the tree. Rather, they recommended a hole in the tree and the tree resting on a peg/bolt. Here's a pic:

    Propping a Pine

I few months ago I got some idea from you guys about building a prop for a small apple tree. The prop was eventually built, installed, and the client is super happy with it. (old apple tree made it through some CRAZY wind storms we had in December) Well, I'm at it again. I have a client with...
