This is normal starting. Nothing special or odd about it. What is dangerous is when this fail and you pull a saw that stop turning or want to go in other direction than you pull. I have a pair of Oregon saw chaps that has approved protection. I use that on shows sometimes. Usually I use them when running saws outside shop. If I cut firewood or fell I have pants, boots, helmet and gloves all with saw protection. I love those gloves, no more beat up left hand from branches...

Did you read what I wrote? Here, try again: When working on saws here it is sometimes a lot of saws to cold start, sometimes a lot of pulling before you find faults and get everything right. Many don't turn over regardless of how you pull so throwing it out there in hope of starting will hurt...

I can say that with the experience I have now I would not do it even if I could. I work on saws mostly.. Try throw starting a saw that is stuck or get stuck in start.

I start saws standing with rear handle between legs. I can't throw start any saw, not even a tiny one. No twist in back, no wight to speak of above hip I need to carry and full control of each move I make.
