Thanks Tim and Wally. Wally thanks for reposting , that was a great old thread. The #26post you posted on the Stihl Hp Mix oil thread about the osha health guide reports of vegatable mist versus petro oil mist was alot of good information. Doesn't work now just comes 404...

Yeah I used hydraulic oil before works ok but pricy though unless you use used.. Strain out any steel filings but again more messing around. I had to think again about what I earlier said. I haven't bought heavy bar oil for summer use for years. Just use canola and use the light winter grade...

Sounds like alot of work and trouble messing around with mixing , this and that. I just buy bar oil by the case in gallon jugs in heavy weight and lightweight from the dealer and be done with it. Even Walmart sells both weight grade of bar oil. Only Stihl has the 3 different grades

Joel can't you get winter grade bar oil in North Dakota? If not you may have to cross the line here into Manitoba. We got heavy.medium and light. Stink of diesel on everything would suck.

Joel, make sure you get the winter pre heater kit with the saw [standard accessory with a new saw bought here in Canada.] All it is is just a blue colored plastic cover plate for the rewind housing and a rubber plug for the preheat window hole in the top cover partition.

No you don't grind out the keyway of the flywheel, you file the key thinner . I think Corey has the upgraded 201 so wouldn't need it. Muffler mod is what he needs

Cory I'm not familiar with the 201s but if I remember correctly some of the guys were just enlarging the existing outlet larger, then I heard about drilling a 2nd same size hole alongside it .

Thanks guys ,nothing fancy and very functional....anyone can do it. Back in the day us loggers did an even simpler muffler mod. When we bought a new saw the first thing we did was poke about 6 holes in the front cover of the muffler with our screnchs . With this method there was no need to...

Seeing the 346's original exhaust outlet on top of the muffler flows to the front of the saw, I drilled the 2nd outlet so it also flows straight out from the front. Seeing I use this saw for some climbing jobs I don't want to melt holes in my expensive Pfanner saw pants with a side exit exhaust...

You may have a leak at the rubber gasket under the oil pump. Easy to check, just pull the clutch ,remove bar pad plate then the pump. I'll see if I can take a pic later of my muffler mod when the wife and kids are in bed:D I'll give a descrition what I did....not rocket science

Mines a grey cap non EPA saw. I find all saws l leak bar oil if you fill the tank right to the top . Oil expands as the powerhead still may be warm or any oil on the chain and in the bar groove will eventually run back down onto the floor.

Green gas cap means catylatic muffler which are stuffed up EPA saws .There was a 242Xp back in the early 1990s that was a real rocket. 42cc, wee bit over 10 lbs PHO and specs were after breakin 15,500 rpm which was still rich for this little saw. Fined tuned over 16,000rpm could work 8 hour a...

I just did a quick muffler mod on my 346 this morning, added a 2nd outlet 1/2" in diameter. Put it to work in a poplar and couldn't believe how it powers up now. Totally different saw now My 562 has some competition for attention now ha ha.

Thanks Magnus. Next time Im on the B.C coast I 'll stop in and visit Mike and pick up a half dozen 20 L (5 gal) pails if the price is right Would be a good time to see Mike's chainsaw museum too.

Can't say for sure Butch, might be different down there in the U.S. Sears here sells non XP grade Husqvarna, never checked to inquire if they sell the fuel. Fire dept's and the such here buy these quart cans by the case. Easy to store, keep in the vehicles and no worries about mixing incorrectly...

You got that right Chris. Just the right saw for the average stuff of day to day treework. But when I do get into a lot of pecker pole like dogwood ,little willow or small conifer the 50cc 346 or 550XP's -16" really come onto their own....energy saving too.

Most Stihl and Husqvarna dealers sell it Butch, premixed with synthetic oil, 95 octane, no ethonal and good for 2 years.

There's always room in my pickup's saw stable for the "in between" saws. The 346 ,550 and 395XP's aren't used all that often but when they are their a blessing. I keep them fueled up with the expensive Husqvarna or Stihl canned fuel mix so I don't have to dump out stale gas mix, I don't run...

Magnus, think of the potential all tree climber arborists would have if they put as much energy into chain saws and saw chain as they do with their climbing gear:/:

Yeah I ran that chain on my 200 too, that was the .043 mini Picco that came on the HT75 etc. polesaws
