    Training A Crow

Magpies are protected here. They used to blacken the sky, but not anymore. They are hard on the song birds, but it is fun to watch the young ones when they learn to fly. Like little kids in a playground playing tag.

    Training A Crow

I saw one today on a fence post and though of Hank.

    Training A Crow

Might be that he just flew away and joined some other crows Jay. Ya never know.

    Training A Crow

It must be nice to have a fan! I cant even get my kids to listen to my playing like that. Does Hank respond to music Jay?

    Training A Crow

Sorry to hear that Randy. I am watching my dog of 16 years slowly die. Nothing wrong with her, just getting slower everyday. Have to wonder why we put ourselves through this stuff. Thats quite a pickle Jay. I still think that Hank knows he is a crow, and that should help him in the wild...

    Training A Crow

What a thread. I can see myself having these thoughts when my kids get a bit older. Damn near a parenting thread. Sounds like you are doing it right Jay.

I agree 100% with Gary. This has been one of the damnedest journeys that I have been on! My folks will ask me "what do you hear about that crow in Japan?":)

    Training A Crow

How much schooling does a bird need? I would think that most of what they do is instinct, the rest learned by watching other birds. I mean, Hank is not going to fly away and try to apprentice in a wood working shop, he is going to do bird stuff. Well, that's the way I figure it anyway.

    Training A Crow

I would have thought that a crow under an umbrella would be a foreboding sight. Not so.....I find it to be a very happy image. Everything seems very friendly. I sorta want to be friends with Hank for some reason.:|:

    Training A Crow

EDIT: I was referring to Hank as being a bit "special", not Jay!:)

    Training A Crow

I wonder if the reason that Jay found him is because he is a bit "special" anyway. I suppose that birds in the wild only get one chance and Hank was lucky enough to find Jay when he needed him. Had he not, well, I am sure a cat would have adopted Hank first. I look at it like any other animal...

    Training A Crow

Crows are pretty damned smart though. I would bet that if I lumbered into Jay's shop that Hank would be able to tell the difference. Birds also seem to have great instincts, even though he is tame I would bet that he would not want to make friends with a cat. Maybe?

Thanks for the pics! Hank looks damn content.

    Training A Crow

I saw an eagle eating a long dead skunk once, they must have a dulled sense of smell or taste. I find it interesting that other crows want to rescue it or at least scold it for the life choices that Hank has made. Does he eat a lot Jay?

    Training A Crow

I am sensing a trend here. For the record I can kill a rattlesnake with a ball peen hammer, but a wasp will chase me out of a moving car. I dont likes em.

    Training A Crow

I dont think the little bugger is a match for that giant wasp yet! I believe the scientific name being waspus horribilous. Scare me to death.

I suspect the same Butch. Gonna have to live with the critter for a while. Not an unpleasant idea!
