Nice, Gary! How long is the air chamber on your APTA?

Some of the paintball stuff is pretty cool, but I agree with you. A bike pump is light weight, portable and reliable. Co2 is also very inconsistent in an area where the temperature makes big swings.

Deva, get yourself some of the recommended 12oz bags. Even if you have had trouble in the past on getting the lighter bags to come back down, the ability of the APTA to send the weight beyond the target crotch helps immensely. With 12oz bags, 200psi is a lot! It should get lines to the top of...

My lazer was made for use on firearms so has windage and elevation adjustments. You will want to check and make sure that your lazer is pointing where you think. One way is to cut two V notches in a cardboard box so they will support the APTA while you spin it. With the lazer on, spin the APTA...

Congrats man! You'll love it. Yes mine is held on with two sided tape and zip ties, but that is just the picatinny rail and the lazer can slide on and off.

Red dot sights are great as long as you can keep your head and eye in close proximity. They should work well from the shoulder launch position. As I said earlier, that does not work well for me so having a lazer that can project an image, regardless of how you are holding the APTA is the...

Try it ring down, you might like it. With ring up the bag will definitely take a tumble as the drag from the throw line takes hold. It makes for an unnecessary variable.

Glad it is working out for you, Kevin. My rubber boot is permanently mounted with a stainless steel clamp and has work flawlessly in protecting the valve.

Scars are just reminders of not caring about or fully understand a potential outcome. The valve placement on the APTA is a classic example of design compromises. Having one of the older models with the valve in the end cap and it being protected by a stiff rubber boot, I have no complaints.

Good to have you in the house, Jeff. At least you got the most current model. This has not been mentioned in a while but the APTA is not limited to the shoulder launch position. Personally I have never been able to make it work as well as my preferred, hip- braced position. Adding a green...

Sounds interesting, Jomo. Pneumatic launchers have been around now for some time. The use of a variety of fast opening valves have been tried and found to work well, except with heavy soft weights. Too much air force applied too fast can break the seal and escape out the barrel before the...

It would be easy enough to do but I don't think that most APTA users would get enough improvement to make it worth while. In testing one of Nick's earlier models that had a longer barrel, with a 12oz bag and 200' of 1.75 zing-it tied to my throw cube, when shot straight up it yanked the throw...

I'm pretty sure you are not going to want one of those, at least not for line setting.

Haha! That is because the APTA has set the bar higher, literally. When the Big Shot first came out I thought it was great. But life is change so now the APTA occupies that spot in my truck.

Like most designs the APTA is a compromise. Some of the early prototypes with longer barrels and chambers would exceed a foot of altitude per pound of chamber pressure. But because most tree workers are not setting lines in redwoods, a more practical overall length was chosen. Also the...

The APTA is still the best by far. Made for tree work, quite, light weight, fits well with our other gear and is super simple and accurate.

Ha! Duly noted but it does work great. If you wear gloves and use some common sense, like not trying to grab the throw line as the bag is leaving the barrel but instead waiting until it has lost most of its energy, the perceived risk is greatly diminished. I have accidentally grabbed too...

I am one of the ones that has switched to a butterfly valve, WOW! So much better and my ball valve was an easy to twist one too. It is so much easier to get a clean, full power release that any thoughts I had on making a trigger have been shelved. I also have a targeting lazer on mine and...

I have been using this setup all season and like it. I was planning on mounting the picatinny in a more permanent way but with just the two sided tape and zip ties it has not budged. Having a lazer mounted proves just how accurate the APTA is. I have not had a chance to use it yet but I...
