OK that explains it. Pin just rests in the outer hole AHA! Just was having a hard time wrapping my pea brain around it. WHat about 1/2 rope? Would it be harder to get past the pin?
I don't get, by looking at it, how the slick pin is easily extracted and how you would tether it to the RW to keep from dropping it. Let me know how that goes Adrian. I have not bought my RW yet, but it looks like it will be sooner than later now.
Yes... or already have another line shot in and traverse over double crotched so to speak. Today I threw the tail of the rope through a crotch on the other leader of a black walnut and had him anchor me so I could just pull me into it....
I get ya Chris.. I often leave a little more bulge on a collar just to set my FC on or to help with rigging a spar down. Just something that will help keep a dead eye or rigging from slipping down.
Feels nice to think nothing of coming down, helping do some clean up... ride back up and get back to work. Or heck, just taking lunch in the shade instead of up in a tree.
I'll have Rob set as many lines as I have climb rope. If I have multiple climbs that are like as you said, 30 foot plus, oh yeah... It rocks. I think I did like 11 trees one day like that. Some were 30' TIP others 50-60. Took out the mistletoe (trees I had done before so not much in them), next...
I have yet to set myself up like Gerry, I have almost everything. I want it to be more SRT that can be switched to Ddrt. One more ascender and some bungee and I should be good to go. I was going to use a chest roller, but for long ascents I have the Wraptor now.
I had a kid I wished had stayed with me that would have trained real well in tree work. He was in his first year with me and then him and his girl were expecting a baby together. They decided to relocate too far to commute to here. Looks like I could have really used him this year. I am going...
Because every tree or work situation is different, you really need to work in a fashion that is comfortable to you. If your comfort level in the work situation dictates you are ok with a base tie in and can continue to work the tree you are on, cool. If not, use a different method at your...
As an asthmatic, I will rarely run a bowline up a tree. If I should have an attack... I can descend and retrieve the line. The only time I run a bowline up is a short climb and my breathing has been spot on for a while.
Nothing wrong with 200 foot climb lines ;)
My set up is a similar version to Burnam's, just no croll on a chest harness. And now that I have a Wraptor, I don't know if I will have one or not  Probably will though just so I don't get too lazy :/:
Once I got the set up "dialed in" with the right lengths and attachments adjusted, I...
A simple SRT entry system like Brian describes is a wonderful upgrade for where you are already. I added a double handed ascender to my set up last year and really wish I had in the beginning. The cost of the CMI Expedition vs the Petzl single handle is minimal and should be considered a good...
